Global Affairs Advocate
Before I went to college, I had never been any further than 100 miles from my hometown. Now, I am a global traveler, with more stamps in my passport during the last 5 years than most people will acquire over an entire lifetime! But, I don't just travel for the sake of traveling: I am a huge believer in the global community, worldwide responsible citizenship, and a broad perspective on global leadership.
My passion for global affairs began with several years of involvement in the amazing organization, Habitat for Humanity. It quickly became obvious that serving others not just at home but also abroad was a deep-seated love of mine. Not only did I volunteer locally, but I found ways to branch out into the global community, traveling as far as Africa, where I helped rebuild an entire school. I found incredible fulfillment in serving others globally, and I wanted to do more, which is why I joined the Board of directors on the World Affairs Council of Charlotte. |
The World Affairs Council of Charlotte is an educational outreach program designed to promote global thinking. It is a regional hub where we help students and citizens develop a worldwide awareness. The Council hosts many functions, including travel programs, speaker series, and awareness events. Additionally, the Council sponsors many students through programming and scholarships, each designed to promote international education and programming. Since 1996, the Council has made a direct impact on over 700 teachers and more than 70,000 students! I am extremely proud of my involvement with the organization, and I am excited for the opportunity to keep working with their incredible team to make the world a better place.
